“Garden In The Parks”
“Garden In The Parks”
Penn State Extension
Saturday Aug 19
From 9-1
North Park & South Park
“Garden In The Parks” is a Penn State Master Gardeners’ event that showcases the horticultural demonstration gardens designed, planted, and maintained at North and South Parks. These test gardens are educational displays for visitors to enjoy an array of gorgeous, beautiful and unusual plants and flowers arranged in a well designed scheme and purpose. The Master Gardeners offer a major plant sale of many unusual varieties of potted plants grown by members, and sample tastings of over 20 varieties of tomatoes, roasted garlic, herbal cookies and some world famous Penn State Ice Cream. There is expert advice and information available on pest problems (deer, etc.!), pollinators, and gardening tools, and on any other horticultural questions you may have.
In addition, several horticultural related businesses and a limited number of garden clubs have been invited to participate. The Daffodil and Hosta Society of Western Pennsylvania (DHSWP), the Pittsburgh Iris and Daylilly Society (PIDS), the Allegheny Chapter of the National Rock Garden Society (NARGS), and the Men’s Garden Club are four of the Clubs. This venue offers a great opportunity for acquiring new Club Members for each of our Clubs.
We Need You! Volunteers Needed!
We need at least two representatives/volunteers from each Club at North and South Parks. This allows for volunteers to talk about the benefits of membership in the Clubs and to enjoy the festivities of the day. Volunteers need to arrive by 8AM to arrange Club literature and signs. Volunteers should bring their own chairs, special drinks (sorry, no alcohol) and snacks. Coffee and water will be available and some limited cookies and the “tastings”.
If you are available to participate please contact:
